"Rest and self-care are so important. When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow.  You cannot serve from an empty vessel."

--Eleanor Brownn

Meet Our Massage Staff

Motivated and passionate about health and healing, I thrive on helping others to find the healing potential we all have inside. With everyone being unique in their own experience and life journey, we all have unique circumstances which require individual, personalized attention to our own story, condition, and health concerns. Joanna offers Swedish Massage as well as a wonderful modality known as Thai Massage.

Thai Massage is an ancient healing system that combines broad and targeted acupressure, stimulation and manipulation of energy lines called sen. Through stimulation-gentle pressure of the sen line, joint mobilization, deep diaphragmatic breathing the body is prepared to receive additional Thai Massage techniques that include manipulation of muscles and tendons through various stretches, twists, and traction- similar to what you might see in a yoga practice. Muscle manipulation is also achieved through Vibration, Tapotement (rap, drum or pat), muscle squeezing and neuromuscular techniques such as Post Isometric Relaxation (holding a very mild muscle contraction). Traditional Thai massage rarely uses oils or lotions and the recipient remains clothed during a treatment. During every session, the practice of Metta is practiced – Lovingkindness & Mindfulness: may you be free from danger, may you have mental happiness, may you have physical happiness, may you have ease of well-being.

Joanna Zwiefelhofer is a Certified Massage Therapist (77002), Thai Massage Practitioner, and C-IAYT Yoga Therapist.

Combining a variety of clinical massage modalities and mindfulness techniques with a passionate dedication to helping others, I specialize in connecting with each client to craft a unique session designed to address her/his concerns within the context of a relaxing and rejuvenating therapeutic massage.

I graduated from the Lauterstein-Conway Massage School, in Austin, TX, in 2012, and have advanced training in a range of techniques and modalities, including Swedish, Sports, Deep, and Oncology massage, as well as Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Release, and others. Having worked extensively with medically frail and vulnerable populations (and despite my reputation as one of northern Humboldt's deepest “Deep Tissue” practitioners), I am well aware that the gentlest work often has the deepest impact. In short, I view massage as a collaborative process—it’s very much about listening to and meeting my clients where they are; about being fully present and open, breath by breath, moment by moment; about being deliberate, intentional and, most of all, effective.

Massage is among the things I enjoy most, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have found a profession I love so much. I view the opportunity to touch and be touched by so many different people in such profound and powerful ways as an honor—one I don’t take lightly. But I do have other interests, too: I’m an avid long-distance hiker, wilderness enthusiast, and committed vegan.'

Before becoming a massage therapist, I spent many years working in the nonprofit sector, teaching English, and traveling the country and the world

My mission as a therapist is to provide those seeking massage with treatments that are grounding and relaxing, to assist with injury rehabilitation, and to help create an empowering sense of full body interconnectivity. My specialties are Swedish and Deep Tissue massage, often integrating therapeutic movement and activation for deeper release. It is my practice to meet clients where they are, honor their truth, and help them to breathe and move a little easier. I aim to offer a service that aids in facilitating greater quality of motion, greater quality of life, and graceful aging.

I have trained and practiced in various healing modalities from bodywork to energetic health, for over ten years. I offer Zen Massage with a combination of intuitive approaches which leave you feeling great physically and energetically balanced. Sessions include focus bodywork, cranial sacral for deep core healing and chakra balancing.
