Kelly has been practicing Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga for about 10 years under the compassionate guidance of Andrew Eppler and Bryce Delbridge and currently studies with Dominic and Stephanie Corigliano. She has also been heavily influenced by her time studying under Sri BNS Iyengar of Mysore, Robert Boustany of Pralaya Yoga as well as Ashtanga masters David Williams and Danny Paradise. She turned to yoga in 2007 to cope with stress and anxiety as an undergraduate Physics major, and through devoted practice has found near-miraculous healing in many areas of her physical, emotional and mental health. Though she couldn't touch her toes or competently do any of the poses of the primary series in that first class, the deep and rhythmic breathing and the flowing movements of the series continued to bring her back day after day. Over the past 10 years she has passionately studied the philosophy, and devoted herself to daily Asana and Pranayama practice. She took over as owner and steward of Om Shala Yoga in June of 2017 and is proud to hold space for practice in Arcata.
She strongly believes that the practice of Yoga is contributing in a major way to the healing of the entire world, and that anyone, regardless of background, body type, age or disposition can use this particular methodology to bring greater peace, well-being and health to their lives.
She is forever in gratitude to the long lineage of masters who have blessed us all with their insight and compassionate transmission of yogic practices.

A nomad at heart, Jess chose to make norCal her home after welcoming Om Shala yogis when it's doors opened a decade ago. You can find her out surfing Humboldt's wild waves, feeding chickens with her 4 year old son Kai, planting succulents, or spending hours coated in clay in her home pottery studio. Her classes are soaked in yoga's rich philosophy and paletted history, mindful alignment and thoughtful sequencing, and lit up by her own never ending search for play and creativity. She uses yoga as a gateway to better understand ourselves, accept and even celebrate our humanness, and seek out joy in the cracks where the light tries to find us. She reminds us that until we shed light into our own lives can we embody the energy to exist alongside and inspire others. Jess carries 900 hours of advanced certifications from Yogaworks, Laughing Lotus, Heartwood Institute and Blissology, is Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500 certified with experience leading 300 hour teacher trainings, and has been blessed to study with many phenomenal yogis during her travels. She leads adventure yoga retreats worldwide and has been teaching yoga for almost 15 years after her first class to a group of women in Mongolia while living in the Peace Corps in 2004.
She joyfully invites you to step into the flow with her. www.paintedbirdyoga.com
Laura began practicing yoga nearly a decade ago as a graduate student in Michigan, finding that it provided much-needed relief and support for her body, mind, and spirit. Shortly thereafter she discovered restorative yoga and began to deepen her practice of mindfulness, emphasizing breath work and meditation and drawing inspiration from scholars like Pema Chodron and Thich Nhat Hanh. Empowered and transformed by this practice, Laura took a leap and moved to the Pacific Northwest, where she lived briefly in Eugene, OR, before moving to breathtaking Humboldt County in the summer of 2016. Here she was delighted to discover a home and community at Om Shala Yoga and continued to grow her practice on and off the mat. In April 2018 she completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training at Om Shala with the incredible Peggy Profant, Samantha Akers, and Liz Heffernan, and shortly thereafter began teaching a donation-based class in the Open Door Community Wellness Garden in Eureka. She is honored to expand her teaching to Om Shala, sharing a mindful flow-and-restore practice with this vibrant community as she continues on the transformational path of yoga.
Laura has been practicing yoga since the mid 90's and teaching privately since 2010. Since receiving her teacher certification she has been moved by a deep desire to encourage and support those of the Golden Age to move, strengthen and increase mobility and flexibility in a safe and nurturing environment. An elder herself, she has been down numerous roads in her life, each of which have brought her full circle to her own Inner Guidance, that sparkling and Intuitive state where the truth of what is brings peace. She is deeply aware of the intrinsic value and transformative power of incorporating yoga into her own life and yearns to share the many gifts that unite to form a practice ~ a deeper relationship with breath, a sense of humor, self-forgiveness, gratitude for each moment and a conscious approach to living a life you love, on and off the mat.
She believes the body is our temple, each asana, an opportunity and an offering.
